Physical Description

  • Alligator turtles got have large heads, strongly beaks, and long, thick scales tails.

  • They have 3 serrated longitudinal keels along the rear edge at their dark brown carapace and alligator-like skin.

  • They have pink narrow tongue which look like a worm.

 

Habitat

Rivers, canals, lakes and streams.

They got their name because of their appearance that similar to an alligator.

They are called as 'The Dinosaurs of The Turtle World'.

They can hold their breath and stay underwater for 40 - 50 minutes.

These turtles get their food with special technic. They stay on the river bottom quietly with their mouth widely open and showing their worm liked tongue, to attract their prey. When they attracted and come nearer, the alligator turtles will snap with their strong jaws and eat they prey.
