Size: Fully grown alpacas can be around 120 to 225cm and 55kg to 65kg.

Average Lifespan: 15 - 20 years

Origin: South America

Conservation Status: Not Extinct

 

Physical Description

  • Alpacas have a slender body and long neck, which can be half of their height. In average, their shoulder height grows around 90cm - 130cm.

  • They have a small head and a big ear. Their face is blunt and smooshed in look.

  • They have various colour in their coats, up to 22 colours, from white to black or brown.

  • The adult males, having fighting teeth around 3cm long.

 

Habitat

  • Alpacas do not have wild habitat because they are domesticated animals.

  • However, they are raised in a wide range of habitats from deserts to mountains, mainly places that with high attitudes.

 

Did You Know?

  • Alpaca is the smallest domesticated camelid species.

  • There are only 2 breeds of Alpaca, which are Huacaya and Suri.

  • They are induced ovulators, meaning they can breed the whole year-round.
