BALL PYTHON


Common Name: Ball Python

Scientific Name: Python regius

Class: Reptiles

Diet: Carnivore

Size: At birth, they usually from 25 to 43 centimeters in length and grow to 1 to 1.5 meters as adults. There are some reports of ball pythons found in the wild at 1.83 meters in length.

Average Lifespan: 20-30 years

Origin: West Africa

Conservation Status: Least concern (IUCN, 2010)

 

Physical Description

  • The Ball Python are usually light and dark brown in color and had small round pattern on their body like the shape of a ball.

  • The belly is generally ivory white.

  • Adult female ball pythons are larger than adult males but their male have a longer tail than a female.

  • Adult females also have longer jaws than their male.

 

Habitat

Savanna and grassland

The smallest of all African Python.

The name 'ball python'- tendency to curl into a ball when stressed of frightened.

Called by 'royal python' based on the story that Cleopatra wore the snake around her wrist.
