Scientific Name: Siebenrockiella crassicollis

Conservation Status: Vulnerable

Physical Description

  • These turtles are totally black, with white and yellow marks on their head.

  • They have flat oval carapace.

  • Their plastron are in cream yellow with dark pattern.

Habitat

They prefer slow-motion water with soft bottoms and various vegetation, rivers, streams, lagoons, ponds, marshes and marshlands.

Did You Know?

  • Their population are decreasing because of over-exploitation for food consumption, for traditional Chinese medicine and for pet trade.

  • They are mostly nocturnal, occasionally active during the day for basking.

  • These turtles can release foul-smelling secretion from their cloaca to rush away their predators when they are threaten.
