Physical Description
These turtles are totally black, with white and yellow marks on their head.
They have flat oval carapace.
Their plastron are in cream yellow with dark pattern.
Habitat
They prefer slow-motion water with soft bottoms and various vegetation, rivers, streams, lagoons, ponds, marshes and marshlands.

Their population are decreasing because of over-exploitation for food consumption, for traditional Chinese medicine and for pet trade.
They are mostly nocturnal, occasionally active during the day for basking.
These turtles can release foul-smelling secretion from their cloaca to rush away their predators when they are threaten.
