Size: Adult turtles grow between 20cm - 22cm

Average Lifespan: 20 - 25 years

Origin: China, Taiwan, Laos and Vietnam

Conservation Status: Endangered

Physical Description

  • These turtles have black and yellow stripes on their neck.

  • They have greyish green carapace and their plastrons are in cream with black spot.

  • They have longer claws compared to other native turtles and webbing feet.

  • The females are larger than the males.

Habitat

Shallow and slow-motion waters, soft muddy or clay bottoms, swamps and rivers

Did You Know?

  • They are collected for medicine, food and even as pet, causing them over-exploitation.

  • They are able to straight retract their head into their carapace, unlike other, tucking their head in on the side.
