Physical Description
The green-winged macaws are in red and with blue back and rump.
Their long tails are tipped with blue with dark green upper wings.
They have horn-coloured upper beak and black lower beak.
They have gray legs.
Both gender are similar in size, weight and colour. There are no obvious differences between the sexes, not even by their plumage or physical indicators.

In the wild, macaws often flock to mountains of clay known as "macaw licks." Such licks contain minerals and salts essential to the bird's diet.

Very young Green-wings have a shorter tail and the eye is black not yellow. The lower mandible is grey and horn-coloured but has become black by the time the Macaw is one year old.
The eye colour turns from light grey, to light yellow to brighter yellow by the age of about three years.
