Physical Description
With yellow scales around its face and bands around its neck, this slender snake is predominantly black.
Generally, the yellow bands do not join over or under the back of the abdomen.
With rear fangs, the mangrove snake is slightly venomous.
With small, vertical slits, the mangrove snake's eyes are wide, giving it another common name, the yellow-ringed cat snake.
When it's active and on the hunt, the eye structure helps it to see better at night.

They live in a group around 11-20 individuals and are mostly nocturnal.
In tree hollows, mangrove snakes lay their eggs. Their clutch size is 10 eggs on average, but it varies from 4 to 15.
The young hatch after a gestation period of 45 days or so.
The hatchlings are about 20cm long and are comparable in color to adults.
