Size: Mature size can reach to about 50cm and weight up to 1kg

Origin: Australia, New Guinea, some of the islands of Indonesia.

Conservation Status: Not extinct

 

Physical Description

  • They are large white parrot with dark grey to black bill and sulphur-yellow crest.

  • They have yellow wash on the underside of the wings.

  • The gender can be identify by their colour of eyes. The females are with red-brown eyes while the males have darker brown eyes.

 

Habitat

Forests, Mangroves, Tropical and subtropical rainforests.

  • Greater Sulfur-Crested Cockatoo is the largest within the group.

  • They are able to mimic other animals' vocal including people.

  • Shrilling is their usual voice.

  • They are extremely intelligent, they can complete tasks with their own ideas. For example, they will hold a piece of food in one foot and use the other to break it in pieces, they even attempt to eat large coconuts.

  • Also, they can work out on unlocking the cage and set themselves out to explore everywhere since they are one of few birds that are brave enough to be placed on ground.

  • Cockatoos as pet need a lot of attention otherwise they will be upset.
